Hedge Trimming

North Hedge was started to fill a gap in the industry between commercial orchard shelter belt trimmers and smaller garden service operators and lawn mowing contractors using hand tools. With a new specially imported machine and attachments we can provide a fast and economical machine cutting service for large garden hedges at a very competitive price.

  • Saw cut up to 150mm diameter branches depending on site
  • Sickle Bar used on 4m high Lilly Pilly - 2m wide cut
  • Limited access cutting Cryptomeria - 2m wide beside water tank
  • Most large sections of 3,000m2 and over generally plant decorative hedges for shelter and privacy. A hedge from 1.4 to 2.4m high will provide enough height to give you protection from the wind (see our page on design) and also screen out the neighbours windows giving you the best privacy and ambience in your garden.

  • We recommend trimming hedges at least annually or when growth is heavy - when you start to think it's looking long then it's time to have it trimmed.

  • The small hedge trimmer is set up with a 3-bladed saw that can cut branches up to 100mm diameter.

  • North Hedge only provides hedge trimming removal using a quick hitch hydraulic grab attachment (grapple rake) on the front of the loader, larger hedge trimmings can be raked up fast and efficiently.

  • There are Four popular options for dealing with hedge prunings and site vegetation:

  • Removal - with a specially made grapple rake clippings can be scooped up and loaded onto transport for carting off site.
  • Chipping - Using a chipper from HireCorp, green waste can be chipped to form a mulch back under your hedge or spread elsewhere on site. This is a do-it-yourself option.
  • Burning - Green waste can be piled for later burning depending on, size of section, time of year and location to neighbours. After a quick stacking with our loader this is a cheap semi-DIY option.
  • Mulching and mowing - Depending on the size of hedge trimmings a larger flail mower or domestic mower can be used to mulch the hedge clippings while on the ground. This can be done right away or after the leaf starts to breakdown.
